With air-conditioned pick-ups in Catalkoy & Alsancak we should arrive at Akdeniz Eco village around 09.30 am where you will experience milking the goats, collecting the eggs from the village chicken coop, making traditional village bread in the local bakery and watch local villagers make Helim cheese and carob syrup.

The local area is steeped in history with village civilisations going back to geometric times.  Incredible terracotta statues as tall as 1.5 meters and dating from Archaic times were found in the village and they are now in display in the Cyprus Museum in the south side of Nicosia.

Sites not far from the splendid beach include the "King Tombs" and the fish ponds that had been used by the earlier civilizations to keep the fish fresh.

Akdeniz Beach is home to "Caretta Caretta" and "Green Sea Turtles" that are under protection of biologists and environmentalist volunteers from the village. Female turtles return to the Akdeniz Beach and lay their eggs every three years and this year there has been over 200 nests.

Lunch in the beach restaurant is included in the cost of the trip.

During the day you will have the opportunity to enjoy the beach and swim in the sea and mountain bike riding is available at no extra cost.

Other facilities such as horse riding and horse safari are available at extra cost.

After being taught how to handle the turtles properly, at around 9.00 pm the highlight of the day is releasing the baby turtles to the sea under the supervision of the biologists.

Pictures may be taken but the use of bright light is not allowed.

A minimum of 25 participants is required to make the trip viable and places will be booked on a first come, first served basis. If there is sufficient interest from Karpaz members we could look to help with some additional transport arrangements.

The cost of the trip is Members 220TL and non-Members 270TL

Please book by Saturday 25th August by the latest.
