Health Insurance (Nov 17)
Health Insurance in the TRNC is extremely difficult, if not an impossibility to obtain for those over the age of 70. Any expat that can afford the premiums will typically take out cover from a UK company.
The TRNC government has talked about introducing an "affordable" insurance scheme for some time now but having had three governments in the past year it makes reaching a consensus on what type of scheme difficult.
There are now a number of reasonably affordable schemes providing "Emergency Health Insurance", from some of the local insurance companies. However these are only on offer currently for ages 2-69 years of age, although insurance companies are seeking to extend this to 75. It is hoped that this type of insurance this will be deemed sufficient for the ‘White card’ requirements but this has to be verified as and when the scheme comes into force.
There are different levels of cover so do check carefully to ensure you have the right one for you.
It is the same policy, whichever company you choose to go with and although the price for the policies is the same with all the companies as they are all administered by ‘Inter Partner Assistance’, (IPA),, they all do offer slightly different additional benefits. As of Nov 2017:
· Azant and Esta offer a free physio appointment, one dental check-up and clean, one set of blood tests and one dietician visit at selected clinics.
· Dagli sigorta are offering to provide bronze level of cover for free if you have your house and/or car insurance with them – you can then pay the difference to upgrade to silver or gold if you require.
