On 2nd June, in ‘The Garden' of ‘The House' in Kyrenia, the British Residents Society and The Royal British Legion (Kyrenia Branch) combined to hold a memorable celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.
For 70 years, she has led the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth with dedication and distinction, earning a place in history that may never be repeated.
The newly elected BRS Chairman Julian Mawdesley welcomed the guests and the event commenced with the march on of 3 Standards- The Union Flag, The RBL and Cyprus Police ( Kim Tyler, Con Graham and Bill Clark). This immaculate display set the scene for a fine celebration.
The National Anthem recorded from the Queen's Coronation in 1953 followed with the nearly 300 attendees joining in the singing.
Sir Michael Graydon ( RBL Kyrenia President) reminded the audience of HM's extraordinary service over the 70 years and the esteem in which she is held around the world. He described her commitment to her armed forces and her sense of humour.

The first was from President Tatar who congratulated Her Majesty the Queen on her Jubilee and appologised that he could not attend due to urgent Government business. The second was from The British High Commissioner, Stephen Lillie who had seen some of the “Live” pictures from the RBL. He sent his best wishes for the Jubilee and could see that everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves at the event.
The formal part of the celebration concluded with rousing rendition of ‘Rule Britannia' ‘Jerusalem' and ‘Land of Hope and Glory' which brought everyone present to their feet waving the Union Jack in tribute to a much loved and respected Monarch.
Julian Mawdesley (BRS) and the Acting Chair of the RBL, Kyrenia branch Jean Bradley thanked the staff of the House who had gone “Above & beyond” to provide an incredible service to help make the event special.
