As part of the ‘good causes' initiatives undertaken by the BRS, a proposal was put forward to the committee to sponsor football training tops for children that will help local football clubs. We are delighted that on this occasion we ‘teamed' up with our primary sponsors Creditwest bank to provide 40 training tops for Duzkaya Spor Kulubu (Duzkaya sports club, the local Catalkoy team) for the academy children aged between 10-14).
It is already proving a great success with the smiles on the faces of the children obvious as they run around during their training sessions (many of the children do come from disadvantaged families). Everyone loves the ‘thunderbolt' design unashamedly copied from the ‘Arsenal' training top design!
BRS chairman Julian Mawdesley said: The BRS became aware of the Duzkaya fc youth football team of Catalkoy who were in need of team training shirts for the new season. Having spoken to our sponsors, Creditwest bank we agreed to sponsor a number of shirts between us for the team. We are pleased to have provided forty Creditwest bank & BRS sponsored shirts to the delight of the under 14 team!
Duzkaya u14 coaches have quoted: We are incredibly thankful to the BRS and Creditwest bank for their ever so kind gesture. The kids were in need of new tops. We think they look great. No doubt the kids will be wearing them during their training sessions and some of them will be wearing them in their free time in and around the Catalkoy area.
A wonderful gesture

The BRS is feeling privileged to have received a considerably generous donation.
Following a request for BRS welfare support for a friend, one of our members, Olwyn Patterson offered to make a donation to the society by purchasing a hospital bed for the use of our members. This was an incredible offer and was passed to our welfare consultant Svetlana to finalise the details. During conversation with our medical supplier Prof. Pt. Sahveren Yucel, it was agreed that for the price of a new bed, Sahveren would supply a bed, two specialist inflatable mattresses and two folding wheelchairs.
Olwyn took possession of the equipment and donated the items to the BRS and stated that the gesture is made in honour of her friend the brave and beautiful Carol Schofield. Carol who suffers from MND lived in Cyprus for many years but recently returned to the UK for personal reasons.
As a society we would like to thank Olwyn and Sahveren for the donation and discount that will benefit our members for many years.
BRS Donation to Turkiye Disaster Relief

Disaster relief
Having taken advice from our medical providers, we decided to donate some medical supplies to the disaster relief which are now urgently required in Turkiye. These items included wheelchairs, portable toilets, wet wipes, wet towels, nebulisers, thermometers and BP monitors. The items were taken with other donations on Monday by a team of Arucad staff who had organised to hand them directly to the Turkish embassy in Lefkosa for distribution in Turkiye. Our medical donation was accepted by the Turkish embassy on Monday and sent straight to the mainland.
BRS reps Julian Mawdesley and Lucy Turner helped package the items into boxes assisted by our regular helper, Joseph.

BRS donate badly needed mattress protectors

The Association of Elderly Rights and Mental Health would like to thank The British Residents Society (BRS) and the Health and Welfare Secretary , Mr Julian Mawdesley, for the donations they made to the nursing homes in TRNC. Thanks for your love and care for the poor elderly in TRNC
BRS Assist Famagusta Care Home with Donation for Essential Supplies

Elderly Care & Home Care continue to be an issue in Northern Cyprus, especially for the Expat Community.
The plight of a Famagusta care home was bought to the attention of the British Residents Society by The Association of Elderly Rights & Mental Health.
The 'Ay Isigi Bakim Evi' Home was in desperate need of a washing machine as theirs had recently broken and non-repairable. The BRS were happy to donate a new washing machine so that they could continue to do their cleaning within the home.
The pictures show the Chair of the Association of Elderly Rights & Mental Health, Hatice Jenkins, the Care Home Owner Mrs Biray Senyigit and Julian Mawdesley from the BRS.
The BRS are also arranging the purchase of 300 disposable mattress protectors to be distributed throughout the care homes.
