UK GOVERNMENT ACCEPTS TRNC VACCINATIONS
Since 10th January 2022 anyone fully vaccinated in the TRNC can enter the UK without the need to take a Day-2 and Day-8 PCR test.
The requirement now is to pre-purchase a Lateral Flow test prior to arrival in the UK to be taken in the first TWO days. You DO NOT have to self-isolate until the results are confirmed but should continue to test for health reasons.
SUMMARY OF COVID-19 DECISIONS
The Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases on Friday updated the Covid-19 measures and restrictions in place.
According to the latest decisions, fully vaccinated persons who have come into direct contact with an individual who has tested positive for Covid-19 will be allowed to resume their daily activities without the need to isolate by wearing a face mask.
- These individuals will be required to monitor themselves for symptoms.
- The contact will be required to carry out a rapid test on the 5th day if he or she has not developed any symptoms.
- However, the individual will be required to carry out a rapid test earlier should they develop symptoms before the 5th day.
- The isolation period for unvaccinated persons or those persons who have not completed their vaccine regimen has been reduced to seven days.
- These unvaccinated persons will be required to carry out a PCR test on the 7th day.
- The isolation period for persons who have tested positive for Covid-19 has been reduced to 7 days.
- The person will undergo a PCR test on the 7th day after testing positive.
- If the person continues to test positive their isolation period will be extended to 14 days.
POSITIVE PCR/ANTIGEN TEST PROCEDURE
We have finally received confirmation from the TRNC Health Ministry that should you arrive back from the United Kingdom via the Republic of Cyprus, and as an example after arriving in the TRNC receive a text message from the Republic of Cyprus advising you that you have positive PCR test upon arrival ateither Larnaca or Paphos, or you subsequently test positive while in the TRNC OR at any time, the procedure that you should follow is,
- Call 0548 857 5717.
- As this number tends to be extremely busy, it is suggested that if you have a Smartphone and have WhatsApp installed you send a message, to that number (0548 857 5717) marked for the attention of Dr Sebnem.
- The message should include a copy of your Passport Picture page, along with your mobile number, and a brief explanation of your circumstances, i.e., arrived at ………. Airport on date……….. and have now received a text message from……………..advising that you have tested positive.
- Then request clarification on exactly which procedure you are to follow.
- If you test POSITIVE you MUST take this action or face being fined for non-compliance.
VACCINATION EXPIRY/ADAPASS CANCELLATION
Vaccines that are given within the TRNC have a ‘shelf life’ and once this has expired you will be classified as unvaccinated and your AdaPass cancelled.
For Sinovac and Johnson and Johnson this is THREE months after completion of your course (a single dose in the case of Johnson and Johnson)
For Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna this is SIX months after completion of the course.
If your AdaPass is cancelled you will be required to undergo a complete course of vaccines (a single dose in the case of Johnson and Johnson) before you will be able to reapply.
BOOSTER INJECTIONS
The Government have advised anyone who received the Sinovac vaccine that as a 3-month period has elapsed they are now able to attend any of the District State Hospitals vaccination locations to been given their booster injection. Generally this is the Pfizer BioNtech vaccine.
Should you have been vaccinated with the Pfizer or Astra Zeneca vaccines you need not take the booster for a period of 9 - 12 months.
ADDITIONAL BOOSTER INJECTIONS
It is recommended that the second booster injections are taken three months after completion of your initial vaccinations. (Six months if your were vaccinated with Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Moderna).
Furthermore as of January 31st, 2022, anyone over the age of 50 years and above who have passed 3 months after the previous dose vaccination, will be able to get their next booster vaccine
The immunisation of this age group continues five days a week in hospitals of Lefkosa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoglu, Girne Akçiçek, Cengiz Topel and Magusa.
As of 31st January, Dr. Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital children's vaccinations will also be done between 08.00-14.00 hours like other three state hospitals.
After the Omicron variant was also seen in our country, the “Vaccination Table” was updated by the Contagious Diseases Vaccine Committee.
- According to table, 3 months after the 4th dose, the 5th dose of Biontech vaccines will be available to people over 50 years of age. After having the first dose of vaccine as Sinovac, if over the age of 50, Biontech vaccine is recommended again 3 months after the 4th dose.
- In addition, people who had Covid-19 disease before their vaccinations were completed or without any vaccine were asked to start vaccinating 1 month after the date of becoming negative.
